Match Report: 19th February 2012
Hi All,
And so as the snow melts and half-term fades we slowly start playing football again:
- The u8s Black played Sovereign Saints in a tough away fixture on a bumpy surface that saw us struggle to get our passing game going. Saints put us under pressure for a lot of the first half and keeper Ed was kept busy goal while the defence held firm. Kicking into the wind in the second half we started playing and Bertie scored after a shot from Sam, Bertie then grabbed his and our second soon after as we won 2-0 The second game was much the same, with saints pushing for a goal and Ed and his defence standing firm. Ed’s long kick Ed saw Tom use his pace to slot a neat left foot finish past Saints’ keeper. Saints came out looking for an equaliser in the second half but could not get through, with Fred outstanding at the back. Final score 1-0 to us.
- The u10s Snakes had a scrappy game against Hawks Youth. We had trouble finding our fluency but worked well in defence, particularly Chris Landa and Oisin MacWalter, backed up with some fine work from Greg Caplan in goal. We created some good chances but in the end it was a first goal of the season for Oisin that separated the sides. Hawks kept pressing to the end but we held on for the 1-0 win. We were a bit more composed in the second game and limited Hawks’ chances. When Hawks did get through they found Oisin in fine form in goal. In the end it was a defence splitting through ball from Alfie Barnes that created a chance for Chris Landa to finish neatly with the outside of his boot as we clocked up another 1-0 win.
- The u14s suffered at the hands of unbeaten league leaders Rottingdean Village going down 1-12. It can be hard to pick out positives from such a score line but it’s worth noting we are only the third team to score against them in 14 games and our goal was the best of the lot! Even better it was scored by Harry Barnes on his return from injury, having been stretchered off against Rottingdean back in November.
Tournament news: Managers will be contacting parents soon for tournament volunteers. The tournament committee (Michael Jackson, Neville Carter and Spencer Prosser) are pulling out all the stops (again) to make sure we have a great tournament (again). Please do all you can to help as this is the biggest event we run and therefore the source of much of our income for the next season. The main thing as ever is volunteers to help on the day – last year a lot of people gave their time but we’d like to share the tasks around more so please do come forward. There are lots of other ways too – for example donating second hand sports kit and equipment– you can give it to me at Friday training. Last year that stall raised c£250 – which covered the cost of 14 new shirts for a squad – so this is a great way to support the club.
